Excel Dashboard for Income Tracking Part 1

This is the first video in a series to create an Excel dashboard to track income. Here we create a master table to enter income data and perform a few calculations. One of the key concepts covered here is the importance of properly formatting your data. Incorrectly formatted data can lead to undesirable or incorrect results. If you’re are seeing unexpected results in your work, check your data format first.

We will also cover how to use the ‘IF’ function in Excel. ‘IF’ is a Boolean function, it returns a result that is either true or false. The syntax is fairly straight forward, requiring a logical test, value if true and a value if false. For example, the function IF(1>10,”true”,”false”), would return “false”. Don’t let the simplicity of this example fool you though, ‘IF’ is a very powerful function and crucial to more complex operations.
